About Us
Who We Are
We welcome you to First United Methodist Church as someone new, and interested in learning more about us. Our congregation welcomes all people, and we value each member, and friend’s participation in our ministry. Worship is the heart beat of God’s people. When we gather in Jesus’ name we offer blessing and praise to God. Our worship opens our hearts and focuses our attention on the God who creates us, names us, and claims us as members of the family of faith. Our worship styles are both traditional and casual, but all of our services invite you to come as you are. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month at both services. We practice “Open Communion” where all are welcomed to the Lord’s Table. You do not need to be a member of this congregation, or any other, to receive Holy Communion. You need only to have a desire to be touched by the love of God. First United Methodist Church of Hartford has been sharing the good news of God’s word and working to fulfill our mission of “Making Disciples of Christ”. We are a part of the global United Methodist Church (UMC) and join congregations from around the world in being people of Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors. We welcome all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, status or economic condition to attend services, receive Holy Communion, and after taking vows, be welcomed into membership of our congregation. Thinking About Joining Our Congregation?
As a community of faith, we are all learning what it means to commit to serving Christ and becoming God’s people in the world. Although membership is not required to be part of our church community, committing to membership brings you together with our almost 500 members on a journey of personal spiritual growth and development and support for the work and ministries of the local and global church. Baptism is required for church membership. First United Methodist Church recognizes any Christian baptism as fulfilling this obligation. Individuals of any age desiring membership may be baptized as part of the membership process. Those interested in learning more about membership may contact Pastor Cheryl Weaver at 262-673-3290. |
